What is MindFulness?

Have you heard or read about mindfulness, but you’re not really sure what mindfulness actually is? Maybe you’ve tried being mindful through meditation, yoga, focused breathing, or other similar practices, but have struggled to stick with it because you keep losing focus or getting distracted. You’ve maybe even decided that “mindfulness” simply isn’t for you. You are not alone in this experience!

So many people try mindfulness-based activities and come to the conclusion that it doesn’t “work” for them, that they are doing it wrong, or that they simply are no good at it. But I am here to tell you that YOU CAN LEARN TO BE MINDFUL! You just likely need some support and guidance.

Today’s world almost demands that we multitask, split our attention, bounce from one thing to the next, and exist in an autopilot mode that makes it hard to be present where we are in this very moment. By retraining your brain to be mindful, you may experience many positive changes including increasing your capacity to:

·      Increase your focus, attention, and concentration

·      Reduce your stress

·      Induce a state of calm

·      Recognize, regulate, and accept strong emotions

·      Improve memory

·      Increase pain tolerance

·      Enhance your mental and emotional flexibility

·      Cultivate of greater kindness and compassion toward yourself and others

·      Decrease avoidance and escape behaviors

·      Decrease or even eliminate unhealthy levels of anxiety and depression

I have years of experience cultivating my own mindfulness and formal meditation practice and am in the process of becoming a Certified Mindfulness Meditation Teacher. Additionally, I have been trained to provide Mindful Sports Performance Enhancement workshops and instruction, meaning that I have the training and skills to teach athletes, actors, singers, dancers, and other performers how to enhance their performance and increase the likelihood of achieving a flow state using mindfulness-based skills.

Never meditated before? No problem! Here is beginner’s meditation I recently recorded to give you an idea of what meditation is like. Just find a quiet, comfortable place to sit or lie down where you won’t be interrupted for the next 15 minutes and Click Below!
